Steeper slopes may be allowed in special cases depending on the length to be covered (fig. 4). Ramps should be provided with landings for resting, maneuvering and avoiding excessive speed. A building access ramp's preferred slope is 1:12, or 1 inch of rise for every 12 inches of horizontal run; this equates to around an 8% slope, or a 4.8 degree angle slope.
