The Atlantic Towers Hotel (Demolished in the 1980s)

Description

This beautiful hotel, finished in 1949, was a typical example of MiMo architecture in Miami Beach. It's tripartite façade leads the gaze upwards to two 'lighthouses', the atlantic towers. The central bay, consisting of two round pilasters with windows, is flanked by columns of cornered windows, allowing through-ventilation. The complex has been renovated a couple of times, adding extra rooms around the back of the structure, but when tourism declined in the 1970s and 1980s, it was eventually demolished in 1983. Currently the site is occupied by huge condominium complexes
