Behind the glazing (glass or acrylic), mat, and print, the backing board separates the print from the open back of the frame, and may also be the surface onto which the print is hinged (attached). Depending on what you're framing; you can use cardboard, standard foam board, acid free foam board, mat board, hard board, chip board, easel backs, or what the heck, you can even use wood.
