After designing the irrigation channel, it is essential to draw longitudinal and cross-section at suitable points for proper execution of work and for giving full information at a glance. First step in a construction programme is to mark an alignment on the contour plan or on shajara sheet. The alignment is then scaled generally in km and its fractions. That is starting from the head of the canal, reduced distances are marked on the alignment and the natural surface levels (NSL) are interpolated for each section.
